Three Pieces to Perfect Your Spring Break Style

When you live in Minnesota, a winter getaway is a MUST.  It is non-negotiable for anyone who wants to maintain their sanity.  Don’t believe any Minnesotan who says something like “oh, winter isn’t so bad” or my favorite “I just love sweater weather!”  Hunny...thirty degrees is sweater weather.  NEGATIVE THIRTY is just cray cray.

Looking chic in 80+ degree weather when your body hasn’t seen the sunlight in months (and let’s be honest, those legs haven’t gotten too friendly with the razor lately either) can be a daunting task.

You also do NOT want to be the woman at the pool in an oversized muumuu and rubber flip flops.  You may want to look effortless, but girl, this is just not the way to do it.

When packing for my recent trip to Mexico, these are the things I kept in mind to ensure I could look chic at the resort.

1.       I packed scarves of all sizes!

Whether it’s a small bandana to keep your hair out of your face at the pool or an oversized scarf that can double as a sarong, make sure you have lots of options and in different sizes.  This one is an old classic from J.Crew but you can find lovely options pretty much anywhere.  Consignment shops are the perfect place to find scarves because you can usually find ones that are made of higher quality silk and will often be priced very well.

2.       I packed a dress that makes me smile!

When I saw this dress on Kate Spade’s website in summer 2017 I knew it had to be mine.  It is just a dress with personality and one that I know I will wear for years to come.  When going on vacation, there is nothing less chic than wearing all neutrals to the beach.  A little color for a beach vacation goes a long way.  A more substantial but still breathable fabric, like this cotton eyelet, is a great way to add interest and expense to your resort look.

3.        I packed something that I wouldn’t wear at home (at least not in February)!

These white oversized sunnies are so freaking fun!  They aren’t necessarily the best style option with my puffy black parka in Minnesota, though.  Having a pair of sunglasses on vacation that I haven’t worn at home really made it feel extra special.  Bonus: picked up these Valentino sunnies at Saks Off Fifth in the clearance section for $32.
